Function for Converting a Month Name to a Number

You may have experienced a situation in your Access Programming where you receive the month in an alpha format, such as Jan for January (1), Feb for February (2), etc. You may also need to store that field as a numeric value in your database. There are a number of ways to accomplish this task, but this approach only uses a little VBA code to create a translation sequence based on the abbreviation.

Below you can see a function where the month is passed in as an abbreviated text string, and the function returns the numeric value associated with that abbreviation.
To get the full month name (January, February, etc.) from a date-formatted field, you can use the function below.
